she was the first female soviet pilot
"Popova, was the most highly decorated combat pilot of World War II. She was one of 800,000 Soviet military women, of which 300,000 served in combat roles (a little-known fact). Popova served with the 588th Bomb Squadron, which flew at night to bomb German encampments, rear-area bases, and supply depots." - Stein, 2016
It makes sense to put flying superheroes next to her. She was truly fierce and fearless.
It seems appropriate that a woman like Nadezhda known as the "Night Witch," immortalized for her brave behavior in the face of conflict, would be on the same tapestry with powerful female heroes such as Wonder Woman.
As a pilot during WWII, Popova was shot down many times but never severely injured. The photographs collaged into this tapestry show both her charisma and invincibility during the war, her femininity bolstering her immense bravery.
